Margie lives in Golden Bay with her husband Graham on their farm in Puramahoi, which is just down the road from our Tipuna papakainga, and near the mouth of the Pariwhakaoho River.  She has three adult children; Nathan, Anthony and Talia, and four beautiful mokopuna.  Her children all live and work outside the Bay, and were recipients of Ngāti Tama education grants.

Margie is currently the Head of Department for Māori at Golden Bay High School and have taught there for over 25 years.  She has been actively involved with Onetahua Marae since its inception in 1984,  and is the current Chair of Onetahua Marae Trustees Komiti.  She also a member of Manawhenua ki Mohua, the umbrella entity for the three Trusts in Golden Bay, namely Ngāti Tama, Te Ātiawa and Ngāti Rārua who ensure our taonga tuku iho (treasures from our ancestors) are protected in this region.

Margie was co-opted onto the Ngāti Tama Trust Board in 2008, and assisted with Treaty Negotiations.   She was voted on as General Trustee in April 2012, at which time she tabled her strong belief in in accountability, transparency and the sustainability of Ngāti Tama Manawhenua ki Te Tau Ihu for generations to come.

Margie always advocates for the need to attract more Ngāti Tama members to live and work in Te Tau Ihu, and hopes with good planning and decision making the Trust could achieve this goal.
